AATIA - Austin Area Translators and Interpreters Association

Russian Special
Interest Group

Coordinator:
Jane Chamberlain

Since 1995 AATIA's Russian Special Interest Group has met occasionally to hone translation skills and exchange news of the field.

Participants receive a short passage to translate before the meetings, where they analyze the text, the problems it raises, and possible solutions. The translating direction alternates (Russian > English one session, English > Russian the next), and the original texts come from a range of nontechnical sources. Members also bring questions arising from work assignments and share reference finds and computer expertise.

Published professional translators, relative newcomers to the practice, and others who simply want to maintain their college Russian but don't translate for a living all find challenge, learning, and enjoyment in the process.
